What are regulatory bodies?

A regulatory body is like a professional body but it is not a membership organisation and its primary activity is to protect the public. Unlike professional bodies, it is established on the basis of legal mandate.

Radio stations have to follow regulatory bodies because they are made to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public.Radios have certain restrictions which include: certain codes and laws and cannot use abusive or offensive language, and there are age regulations.


What to consider when making your own advertisement?

  • Don't use offensive or abusive language that will offend people
  • If it is not suitable for young children then don't air it till after 9pm
  • Don't offend certain members of the public
  • Do not mislead people

  • Do not talk about certain things that offend people

  • It has to be clear

Commercial radio

 Commercial radio is a radio station that generates revenue through advertising, also called radio commercials, radio spots or advertising jingles. The advertisements are released by companies which find the commercial radio to be a good medium to take their message to their customers.Commercial radio broadcast is a kind of radio broadcasting or programs on radio that are owned by private corporate media, opposing to state ownership.
